When we were travelling in Yunnan, there was rose puff cake everywhere. The rose aroma was all over the old town of Lijiang. While it is actually not that hard to make at home.
When I was little, I remember when there is a holiday, somebody would bring this kind of desert to my grandpa which was his favorite. It is a patient testing making process. But looking at those pretty little sweeties, having them together with a cup of tea, every step of effort paid off.
Congee is a traditional food Chinese people eat during Laba Festival. Because it is very easy to make, many family in north part of China eat it quite often. My family eat congee for every dinner with some stir fried green vegetable. I am still keeping this habit. A light dinner like congee will not give our digestion system too much work at night.
Ingredients is not firmed. You can use any grains, beans, nuts, dried fruits you want.
PS:The Laba (simplified Chinese: 腊八; traditional Chinese: 臘八; literally: “Eighth of La”) is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the eighth day of the La Month (or Layue 臘月), the twelfth month of the Chinese calendar. It is customary on this day to eat Laba Congee. The Laba Festival had not been on a fixed day until the Southern and Northern dynasties, when it was influenced by Buddhism and got a fixed time on the eighth day of twelfth month, which was also the enlightenment day of the Buddha. Therefore, many customs of the Laba Festival are related to Buddhism. It corresponds directly to the Japanese Rohatsu and the South Asian Bodhi Day.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laba_Festival)
